Something else we learned about this area is that Cirali beach, extending for three kilometers, is one of the few protected beaches where the Caretta caretta (loggerhead) sea turtles lay their eggs. On moonlit nights from April to July the mature Caretta caretta return to these shores where they were born to lay their eggs, having travelled thousands of miles to get here. These turtles are found many places in the world but are endangered do to encroachment on their breeding and egg laying grounds as well as pollution.
