Suzie's
letter from December 5 , 2004
l am now trying to catch up with all that has taken place since May. Yikes!!
After the May excitement (graduation, christening) Ella graduated from American
Martyrs Preschool and the same day had a ballet recital. Michael and I went to
Botswana and South Africa. The Baxters spent a few weeks in Connecticut, New
York, the Jersey shore, and Philly. Kevin took a new job as principal of American
Martys School in Manhattan Beach. In September Ella entered kindergarten at American
Martyrs School (how cool is it to have Dad as Principal) and Scott entered the
Yellow Room at the American Martyrs Preschool. Sean is a growing, smiling 8 month
old. While Aunt Wendy recovered from surgery she continued to work on the new
house, play and babysit with kids and take fun photos. The fall events including
Halloween and Thanksgiving have come and gone and I am now trying to wrap up
the year in my holiday letter.
Ella and
Scott have been taking gymnastics. Ella plays soccer (their season
was one tie and the rest wins but nobody keeps score!). Ella can whistle,
snap her fingers, skip, tie her shoes, etc. Scott can head butt, ride
a scooter, draw with left (the favorite) or right hand, lead cheers
at Ella's soccer games (GO Green Diamonds!), explain why fish sleep
with their eyes open and more. Sean smiles and laughs, crawls, smiles
and laughs, stands, smiles and laughs, "talks", smiles and
laughs, etc. They all love stories and continue to amaze us! We love
our visits and getting to share in the growth of this very special
family.
Kim and
Kevin work incredibly hard fulfilling their various roles as mom, dad,
principal, friend, carpooler, volunteer, teacher, wife, husband, daughter,
son, sister, brother, etc. We are very proud of both of them!!
Love and
Peace to all and happy holidays with family, friends, and those who
need us!
Note: Wendy was with us in Hermosa Beach for a five months as the Peace Corps
sent her home for rotator cuff surgery which she had on June 8th. She is
recovering well (the Doctor calls her his "star patient"). She
has returned to South Africa and is working hard at a project which will
help to empower young women. Check out her web site for what she is doing
and how you can help. We all miss her as she did gardening, took care of
the fish pond, babysat, fixed things around the house such as new locks,
and the list goes on.... I especially miss her as I was able to spend more
quality time with her than I have in years. I so admire what she is doing
and the leaps of faith it has taken for her to get there. All of us who
are touched by what she (and other Peace Corps Volunteers) are doing will
be permanently effected.
